Hazel Margaret Rakestraw

Hazel Margaret Rakestraw, 89, of Sweet Home died Tuesday.

She was born in White Cloud, Kan., to Fred and Elizabeth (Schrieber) Weathers.

Hazel moved to Brownsville from Colorado in 1947. She worked many years as a certified nurse’s aide at the Mennonite Home. She also did home health.

She enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, reading and spoiling grandchildren with lots of love. She was a member of American War Mothers, Christian Adventurers, Brownsville Senior Center and her church. She was very active at the First Baptist Church of Brownsville and was one of the oldest members.

She is survived by children Jean (Dee) Kershaw of Beaverton, Marilyn (Joe) Jenkins of Sweet Home and Earl (Stella) Rakestraw of Oxnard, Calif.; brothers Harold Weathers, Stanley Weathers and John Weathers; sister Ruby Shepherd; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by husband Earl Rakestraw in 1996.
