Albert Smith Story

Albert Smith Story, son of Harrison and Elizabeth McClave Story of Monroe county, Indiana, was born at that place August 5, 1855. Twenty-two years after, in 1877, he graduated from Hanover college, Indiana, and the following year he came to Nebraska and made his home in Pawnee City.

He was admitted to the bar in Pawnee City in 1880, and has followed the practice of the law here ever since, except for the short period of his residence in Beattie, Kansas.

Mr. Story was associated in a law partnership with his brother, the late R. W. Story, for the past thirty-four years, their partnership having begun in 1883. The two brothers carried on their practice in splendid harmony, the gifts and talents of the one being supplemented by those of the other. More retiring and reserved than his brother, he was a man nevertheless who commanded the greatest respect and confidence of not only his clients, but of all who were favored with an insight into his sterling worth. In the public service, as mayor and postmaster of our city and as county attorney, he was faithful and efficient. His abilities in his chosen profession were of a high order, and as a citizen he quietly but confidently stood for the highest ideals.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Pawnee City, and also of the Masonic order.

He is survived by three sisters and two brothers: John C. Story of Pawnee City, James M. Story of Lewiston, Mrs. Lydia Butler of Pawnee City, widow of the late Gov. Butler, Mrs. Sarah Miser of Annapolis, Ohio, and Miss Alice Story of Pawnee City. Two brothers and a sister have preceded him into the unknown, his brother, William W. Story, having died of wounds received in the battle of Gettysburg.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Tuesday afternoon, July 24, by Rev. J. H. Stitt, and interment was made in the Pawnee City cemetery. The service at the grave was in charge of Pawnee lodge No. 23, A. F. & A. M.
