John Leroy Weibert

John LeRoy Weibert, from Longmont, Colorado passed away peacefully on June 18, 2013 at the age of 83. John was born October 2, 1929 in Gill, Colorado to Anna (Oesterich) and Emanuel Weibert. Anna was widowed before John was born. She brought three children into the marriage with Emanuel, had 5 children, then John, and one more after to make a family of 10 children.

John graduated from Gill High School in 1947 where he was active in sports and selected to play on the All-Star basketball team his senior year. It was during his high school years that John met the love of his life, prom queen and cheerleader, Wilma Hilzer who became his wife on November 25, 1951.

John was a veteran and served in Japan during Korean Conflict as a medic.

He and his wife farmed and lived in the Gill area until 1957. Then John worked for the Mountain Bell Telephone Company until retiring in 1987 as a service foreman. John believed greatly in service to others.

He joined the Loyal Order of Moose in 1955 and was very active for decades in the Ritual program at the state and national level as a participant and state ritual chairman. He received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest degree, in 1981 at the House of God in Mooseheart, Ill. He served for 18 years on the International Ritual Committee and judged throughout the country until 1998. He was also a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, and at either place he often could be seen preparing mashed potatoes for the monthly senior citizen dinners.

John was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Congregational Church in Greeley, CO where he was baptized, confirmed, and married.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife and daughter, touring extensively in the United States and Europe, and visited Russia, the birthplace of his parents in 1992.

John loved basketball, baseball, skiing and golf. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed working the soil on his brothers' farm until 1994.

He loved gardening and contributed many hours toward the maintenance and beauty of Hover Village in Longmont where he lived since 1996.

John was passionate about the Christmas holiday season, and preparing the annual display of decorative lights with his daughter, Kimberly, and her partner Kevin. John's love and enthusiasm for the season sparkled as he handed out candy canes to wide-eyed kids.

John and Willie and were blessed with 56 years of marriage and one child, Kimberly Kay.

A niece, Jonna Hilzer-Dickie made her home for a time with the Weibert family after her mother's death. Willie and John always regarded Jonna as a second daughter. She and her husband Scott, have two children, Joel and Julia, who John and Willie always treated as their grandchildren.

John is survived by his daughters, Kimberly, of Broomfield, CO, and Jonna of Cheyenne, WY; and many loving nieces and nephews from the Weibert and Hilzer families.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Anna (Oesterich) and Emanuel Weibert, and his wife, Willie; all of John's siblings are deceased; brothers, Fred, Alex, Clarence, Emanuel, Herman, and sisters, Marie, Esther, Ella, and Kathleen.
