J. Freienmuth Dies Suddenly

IN A HOSPITAL TEN DAYS

Failed To Recover From Operation In Lawrence Hospital Week Ago Sunday.

Jacob Freienmuth, age 71 years, a resident of Tonganoxie for about fifty years, died in the Simmons hospital, in Lawrence Tuesday evening, July 2, after being confined to the hospital for about ten days. Mr. Freienmuth was up and around until a short time ago. He submitted to a surgical operation a week ago Sunday morning, and seemed to be holding his own, but at his age his strength gradually declined. Tuesday it was learned he was not expected to live, and this morning word was received that he had passed away last night.

Funeral services will be held at the Tonganoxie Friends church, Friday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. C. L. Nellis, pastor, will be in charge of the services. Burial will be in Memorial Park, Lawrence, Kansas. Mr. Freienmuth had been in failing health for some time, but his death was rather unexpected to the community. An obituary of the life of Mr. Freienmuth will be published next week.

Obituary

J. Freienmuth Lived on Three Continents.

The passing of Jacob Freienmuth in Tonganoxie last week marked the end of a long life, one which was spent at times over a rather large portion of the earth. He was born in Canton Thurgau, Switzerland, March 12, 1858, which made him at the time of his death in the hospital in Lawrence, July 2, 1929, 71 years, three months and two days in age.

When a boy of thirteen, with his father, he set out for what was then a comparatively new continent--South America. He spent six years in the new countries of Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil. In 1871 he made his way to the United States, and at the age of nineteen settled in Texas. Twelve years later found him in Kansas, and he lived in Lawrence a short time before coming to Tonganoxie where he has since made his home for about forty years.

He was married in 1893 to Miss Louisa Ernst of Lawrence, Kansas. For thirty-six years he was employed in the local mill. Failing health caused his retirement about four years ago.

He is survived by his wife and three children: Mrs. Uriel Harling, Tonganoxie; Ernst Freienmuth, Cleveland, Ohio; Emil Freienmuth, Topeka, Kansas; and two grandchildren, Mary Louise and Don Hugh Harling of Tonganoxie. A sister, Elise Freienmuth lives in Pettus, Texas.

The funeral services for Mr. Freienmuth were held in the Friends Church, Tonganoxie, Friday afternoon at Two o'clock. Rev. C. L. Nellis, of the Friends Church, assisted by Rev. Chas. Husband of the Congregational Church conducted the services. He was buried in Memorial Cemetery, Lawrence.
